Wholesale Yarn

Where to Save Money on Yarn

Could you please suggest a company that has wholesale yarns? I knit and sell my stuff at fairs etc. Because we have a yarn store around here a lot of companies won't sell to me or they ask for such a big order.

Thanks

Ruth

While you may not be able to buy wholesale unless you’re able to buy a truckload of yarn, you can certainly buy discount.

What I do is comparison shop on the Internet. To answer your question, I did a Google search on Red Heart Yarn, one of the most popular yarns for home knitters. Some of the paid ads in the right column look very enticing, even promising yarns at wholesale.

But often, when you click there, you’re taken to a directory which will take you to other sites. It’s the long way to go, but you may find some buys.

On the main part of the search results page, the best offer I found was DiscountYarnSale.com. They have a minimum $30 order and offer Red Heart Yarn in a six-skein bag for $7.30. That sounds like a great buy until you go to checkout and find they want $24.50 for shipping!

One thing I’ve learned shopping from catalogs or on the Internet, is to make up a dummy order and see what the shipping and handling amount to. What looks like a great buy in the catalog may turn out to be quite expensive.

Next I tried two craft vendors I am familiar with and can personally recommend: Create For Less and Jo-Ann’s.

Create For Less has Red Heart for $2.99 a skein and free shipping on orders of $150.

Jo-Ann’s has Red Heart for $2.89 to $3.49. We usually have a JoAnn´s coupon for you as well. Look down the right hand column of this page for it.

Bottom line: if you want to spend between $25 and $149.99 for Red Heart Yarn, go to Jo-Ann’s and be sure to use the coupon.

If you can afford to spend $150 or more, try Create For Less. It really pays to comparison shop. If there is a specific yarn you are looking for, please write again.

Does Red Heart yarns still make the crochet yarn called Denim Heather #406 in the 7 oz? I'm having trouble finding it in the local stores. If not, is there a color close to it?

Norma

Linda’s Yarn Store online has Red Heart #406 in the Super Saver Economy Line.

However this yarn is called Medium Heather and is a sage green as the name suggests.

Linda does carry a Denim Heather in the Red Heart Heather Line. Its number is #4474 and it contains 5 oz. not 7.

Oftentimes retailers will create their own stock numbers for products they sell, so I can’t be sure if #4474 is the Denim Heather you are seeking. I Hope so!

P.S. If you visit the Artful Crafter blog on Sundays or go there any day and scroll back to previous Sundays, you will find lots of links to great knitting and crocheting patterns and tips. Sunday is Artsy Bloggers Roundup Day.
